Brenda's father, Angus Ellery, began the family tradition of writing doggerel, witty, silly odes in birthday cards and for special events, and Brenda continued the custom all her life, inspiring my son and me to do likewise. We had long been threatening to compile them into a book, especially as others appeared, narratives, jokes, character sketches and as Brenda's final illness was preventing her from undertaking the task, I, as her daughter, took it up.

Brenda died in March 1994 - sadly, 8 months before the book's publication, and husband John was to die two weeks after it. John (Hendas, to me) was thrilled with it but his untimely death so soon after the book's release meant it was never marketed.
